Event details

Come join us as we hear from our faculty about how they’ve used performing arts in their classrooms. Following the talks, we will have an open discussion amongst all attendees and the presenters where more can be shared about how this could improve our pedagogy.

This event, co-hosted by the LCC Research Committee and DKU Center for Teaching and Learning, will feature talks from the following DKU faculty:

Songs and Performances for Chinese Language Learners

This interdisciplinary project focuses on creating Chinese songs specifically designed for beginner and low-level Chinese language learners. Its goal is to offer learners a unique and engaging experience by integrating performance arts into the language learning process. The songs are carefully crafted to match students’ Chinese proficiency levels, featuring simple yet effective language combined with catchy melodies.
Through extracurricular activities and events, students are provided opportunities to perform these songs for a wider audience, allowing their learning outcomes to be both seen and heard. This approach not only enhances students’ motivation but also increases their sense of achievement, making the learning process more rewarding and enjoyable.

From Classroom to Stage: Theatrical Performance as a Medium of Language and Cultural Learning

This talk explores how theatrical performance enriches language learning by engaging students’ bodies, voices, and emotions. Through in-class performance assignments and the Chinese Theater Night initiative, language study becomes an act of creative expression and cultural participation.
