Think Globally, Act Locally: How We Engage Languages and Cultures

How can we teach languages and cultures in a way that encourages and equips learners to think globally and act locally? Echoing DKU’s emphasis on “In China, For the World” and its rooted globalism, the conference highlights the unique geographic and educational position of international higher education. This conference aims to foster dialogue among researchers and practitioners to advance equitable and inclusive language and culture education and to bridge the global and the local.
We invite participants to submit proposals in the following fields or related topics including, but not limited to:
- Language pedagogy: learning, teaching, and assessment
- Writing and literacy education
- Intercultural communication and linguistic diversity
- Literature, culture, and translation education
- AI and technology in intercultural education
- Teacher education
- Language, society, and identity
- Media and cross-cultural encounters
- Language policy and globalization
- Cultural responsiveness in language education
Submission Format
Paper Presentation is a report on an original study or practice delivered within 20 minutes, including 15 minutes for the presentation and 5 minutes for discussion. We have made an intentional choice to limit presentation times so that there is more time for discussion and conversation, both during and between sessions. Paper proposals should include a title (15 words) and an abstract (350 words), as well as name(s), affiliation(s), and contact information of the presenter(s).
Panel should consist of 3-4 paper presentations, which will share a 60-minute session inclusive of the discussion. Panel proposals should include (1) an overview of the entire panel, including title (15 words) and abstract (200 words); and (2) title (15 words) and abstract (300 words) of each individual paper, as well as name(s), affiliation(s), and contact information of the presenters.
Interactive Poster Session fosters engaging discussions and conversations between poster session presenters and their colleagues. Poster proposals should include a title (15 words) and a short proposal of 200 words describing your poster session, as well as name(s), affiliation(s), and contact information of the presenter(s).
